PATIENT IS NOT A CUSTOMER OR A COMSUMER FOR A DOCTOR

This is in reference to my fb post dated 17.8.17 @DrRajas Deshpande in which it was mentioned that patient is not a customer or a consumer and rightly so. But it's important to mention here that patient , too , should not consider themselves the same. Sometimes blaming doctors for negligence and carelessness and putting them under the scanner puts undue pressure on the doctors and instead of getting better results from them , doctors come on the back foot , become defensive and as a result may refuse treatment even for the cases which they can cure . 1. Sometimes your plumber , electrician , driver or even your maid doesn't pick your calls and later bluntly telling you that it was sunday or they were busy , Your Doctor never does so. He picks your calls even at odd hours just to answer your simple and sometimes stupid questions like 'Hello Doctor , I m at a party , can I have ice cream ' or another questions like that which are sometimes avoidable. 2. He picks your calls even early morning at 5 a.m. , no matter even If he himself slept at 2 a.m. after solving some case on the software. 3. There is no independence day for him or Republic day , Janmashtmi or for that matter any other National Holiday whilst all other business establishments , Factories or even your maids or security guards or drivers are at leave but still he is happy to serve you.He may even come out of a Movie Hall to Attend your call. 4. Even if your Doctor is celebrating his beloved 's b'day or some other family member's and rejoicing in some restaurant , he is sad at your illness and comes out of the banquet hall just to listen to you and advise you so that u can relax and feel good. He would pick and attend your calls even in personal or family moments or even while driving. No other professional would do that.Trust me. 5. Even when he is about to leave Clinic for his special day for his spouse , and some emergency comes , he will surely attend you first , Not thinking that his spouse is waiting for him and can even get angry with him. For your Doctor , You are the Priority. Most of the Doctors or even their Attendants don't have weekends. 6. Your Doctor would never say or make an Excuse that he is having dinner or on a Date to Attend your phone calls just because you are worried at sudden fluctuation of your blood sugar or blood pressure at 11 p.m. He will surely and patiently listen to you neglecting even his girlfriend or a Date. 7. No Doctor would ever Switch off his Mobile Phone whereas all other Professionals will surely do that when they don't want your calls even if you urgently need them , be it your architect , your interior designer , your computer professional or even your local cable wala won't come to rectify your cable connection even though there's your important and favourite India-Pakistan Cricket Match . They will always have an excuse , Whereas Your Doctor won't ever let you down . 8. Your doctor always feels bad when people sue or threaten them .You would never sue your advocate . 9. No Doctor would deliberately bring a bad name to his profession or his practice . (Although there are few fishes who fowl the pond ) Giving you bad advise or not treating you properly is more of a Doctor's loss than yours.but law of the land doesn't understand that . 10. Sometimes patient's don't follow doctor's advise properly , thereby leaving bad prognosis for their disease and then further deteriorating their diseased condition. For your Doctor , Your Health is Most Important and he Advises you or asks you to avoid few things only for you. So , Next time you go to your Doctor , go with belief and Utmost Respect .Only then , Your Doctor would be able to serve you better. Thanx for reading it full till the end.
